My Background

I have always loved working in the field of technology and have done so for my entire career. Over the years, I have acquired experience designing and developing software, writing business requirements, performing technical training, and managing relationships with external technology partners.

I started out working for over 20 years in software design and development for prominent high-tech companies including AT&T and Merck & Company. During my time as a programmer, I worked on a variety of large-scale software development projects and learned to code in several languages. I also worked for a time as a business analyst in an information technology (IT) department where I developed business requirements for a college’s online student management system.

My Transition to Freelance Web Design

While working in the corporate world, I had a few opportunities to do pro bono websites for a few groups at my local church. These experiences sparked my interest in web design and eventually led to the formation of Thomson Web Services, my freelance web design business. I love the creative aspect of website design, and I enjoy creating an online presence that helps my clients look great online.

My Pivot to WordPress Web Design

When I first started out in freelance web design, I created websites using the Joomla Content Management System (CMS). After awhile, I knew I needed to pivot completely to WordPress for my web design projects. I was amazed at the beautiful websites that could be built using WordPress, and I was in awe of the huge number of high quality plugins (over 54,000) that could be “plugged” into a WordPress website to provide new features and functionality. For a new business seeking startup web design or a small and growing business, this means you can start with a basic website and as your business grows, it can be extended with specialized functionality via a WordPress plugin.

As for me, I am a huge fan of WordPress and absolutely love to use it for my web design business.

Other Interests

If I’m not sitting behind my desk working on a freelance web design project, I enjoy finding time to run, cook, and work out at my local gym. I am blessed to have a wonderful family, and a crazy but adorable Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Charlie who constantly amuses our family. In fact, one of my daughters recently interned for Thomson Web Services, and I tasked her with creating a website as her final internship project. She created the “Corg of Borg” website to remind our family of our well-loved but absolutely crazy boy nicknamed the “Flying Demon Dog”!
